About our Educational Assessments

What is an Educational Assessment?

An educational assessment is conducted by a psychologist to help to identify specific learning difficulties. The psychologist uses specific assessment tools to measure a child’s intellectual abilities and academic performance, then compares them. Discrepancies between these can indicate specific learning challenges.

Left unsupported, learning challenges can significantly affect a child’s ability to learn and progress in their education. â€‹â€‹Signs that suggest specific learning difficulties for school-aged children include:

  • Poor memory skills

  • Slow work pace

  • Impulsivity and difficulty with planning

  • Handwriting issues

  • Challenges with copying from the board or frequent classroom frustration

  • Difficulty connecting letters to sounds

  • Frequent reading and writing errors, such as letter mixing or sentence jumbling

  • Inconsistent spelling, often spelling the same word differently in one piece of writing

  • Avoidance of reading and writing tasks

  • Struggles with numbers, time, symbols, or math

The minimum age for an educational assessment is 5 years old.
